William Elvie Roberts

William Elvie Roberts, 87, of South Hill, Washington, passed away on July 10, 2026. Bill was born on June 16, 1939, in Kingman, Arizona. He served in the United States Army, first stationed in Korea before serving as a dental hygienist at Madigan Army Medical Center.

Bill dedicated more than 40 years of his career to the Port of Tacoma. He was a proud member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 23. Throughout the years, he served as an officer of the Tacoma Longshoremen’s Credit Union as well as the Pensioners Club, where he remained an active member.

Outside of work, Bill enjoyed classic cars, and cheering on the Seattle Mariners. He loved fishing with friends on Puget Sound, on trips to Alaska, or on the banks of Tanwax Lake, where he lived for many years.

More than anything, Bill was devoted to his family. He had a generous spirit and was always willing to lend a hand and share what he had with others. He was known for his quick wit and easy sense of humor, bringing laughter to family gatherings and making friends wherever he went. His kindness and support left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Bill is survived by his wife, Darlene Roberts; his children, William Roberts, Kathleen Henricksen (Mark), and Stephanie Roberts (Don Wilkison); his grandchildren, Ashley Roberts, Haley Evans, and Braden Henricksen; and his great-grandchildren, Kemper and Millie Evans.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Friday, August 7, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 26418 Mountain Highway E., Spanaway, WA 98387. A reception will follow.
