Roy Lorenzo Munson

Roy Lorenzo Munson was born on September 7th, 1930 in Velva, North Dakota to LD and Else Strenge Munson and died on January 8, 2026

Roy out lived all his siblings. His three half sisters Amy, Emily, Hyla, one half brother Malvin.His sister Margot Delvicchio and brother Jerome Munson. Roy lived in Velva for 10 years before moving to Tacoma in 1940 where he went to school at Jason Lee Jr high. The family later moved to Puyallup. A Puyallup High School graduate 1948, he then married Opal Blubaugh 1951.

Roy served USAF 1951-1955. Their first child Melvin L. Munson was born at March AFB Riverside, CA. and daughter, Marilyn Debra Munson was born later that year when Roy left the Air Force. He and his family moved back to Puyallup where their third child, Lori Ann Munson was born in the old Good Sam hospital in Puyallup.Roy had odd jobs and worked in a cabinet shop until found permanent employment at Fiberboard/Sonoco where he retired from in 1995.

Roy’s hobbies included woodworking , mechanics and he could repair anything. He enjoyed going on cruises, loved boating, water skiing, camping, road trip across the country. He always had a garden had raised two Herefords, and three pigs. Roy also built two houses.

Most of all, he enjoyed going out in the woods on his every other weekend where he would cut down trees ,trim logs, and chopped wood. He would often go to his son’s house to cut branches. He finally quit cutting wood in his 80s.

He survived by his son Melvin, wife Susie and one son. Daughter Marilyn Sheard (husband Greg pre-deceased) and grandson Tom Sheard and great-grand sons. Daughter Lori Fretts, along with husband Steve Fretts as well as two grandson’s, three great grandsons, and one great grand-daughter.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 23, 11 a.m. at Valley Burial & Cremation, 217 E Pioneer, Puyallup, WA 98372.

Interment will follow at the Sumner Cemetery.
