James David "Dave" Collins

James David Collins — known far and wide simply as Dave — was born on March 5, 1956, in Rapid City, South Dakota. In the early 1970s, he made his way to Washington, where fate placed him living across the street from his high school sweetheart and future wife, Teresa Thompson. Clearly, he didn’t have to look far for the love of his life. Dave and Teresa married in 1975 and built a life full of family, friendship, hard work, and plenty of stories worth retelling.

In his younger days, Dave was what can only be described as a bit of a wild cowboy — a true bronco buster. He carried that adventurous spirit with him throughout his life, whether he was traveling to countries around the world, enjoying sport shooting, or striking up conversations with complete strangers who somehow never stayed strangers for long. Dave could make a friend anywhere, anytime. Grocery store line, airport terminal, halfway across the globe — it didn’t matter. If you stood still long enough, you were likely walking away as his new buddy.

Dave was a proud and hardworking businessman. Over the years, he started J & D Welding and worked his dad, then bought White Center Blacksmith. He later purchased Watts Specialties and started Watts Process Machinery, building a reputation for integrity, grit, and getting the job done right. He poured his heart into his work, but he never lost sight of what mattered most.

He loved classic cars, sport shooting, and a good book — and he was a big reader long before it was trendy. But more than anything, Dave loved spending time with friends and family. Whether gathered around a table, out on an adventure, or simply swapping stories, those were his happiest moments.

Dave is survived by his devoted wife, Teresa; his daughters, Heather and Katie; his son-in-laws, Randy and Dave; and his step-grandchildren, Naomi, Randy, Timmy, and Drew. He is also survived by his sisters, Gayle, Marilyn, and Jennifer, and his brother, Andy.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice; his father, James; and his sister, Carrie.

Dave will be remembered for his big personality, his bigger heart, and his ability to turn ordinary days into memorable ones. He lived fully, loved deeply, worked hard, and left behind a lifetime of laughter and stories. If there’s a rodeo, a classic car show, or a lively conversation happening somewhere beyond this life, we’re certain Dave has already introduced himself to everyone there.

He will be deeply missed, endlessly remembered, and always loved.

A celebration of life will be held March 15th from 1PM-4PM at:

Tacoma Sportsmen’s Club, 16409 Canyon Rd E, Puyallup, WA 98375

Food and Beverages to be served.
