Herbert Crabtree

Herbert Crabtree, age 93, of Puyallup, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, July 11, 2026. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and man of quiet strength, he lived a long life marked by service, humility, and steadfast love for the people he cherished.

He served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1955, carrying the values of duty, discipline, and camaraderie with him throughout his life. In 1955, he began what would become a 43‑year career with Foss Maritime, working from 1955 until his retirement in 1998. Known for his reliability, hard work, and integrity, he earned the respect of everyone who worked alongside him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, who passed in 2010, and by one of his step‑daughters. He is survived by his daughter, son, and remaining step‑daughter; his many grandchildren; great‑grandchildren; and great‑great‑grandchildren, generations who brought him immense joy.

A lifelong member of The First Christian Church in Puyallup, he remained active in his faith community, offering kindness, wisdom, and a steady presence. Though he never sought the spotlight, his easy smile, warm belly laugh, and gentle spirit made him beloved by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be hosted by his family in the fall. His ashes will be spread with those of his beloved wife, honoring their enduring bond and the life they built together.

He will be remembered for his humility, his unwavering loyalty, and the quiet way he made every gathering feel warmer simply by being there. His legacy lives on in the family he nurtured and the countless lives he touched with his kindness.
