David Lee Otterson died unexpectedly at his home on Sept. 14, 2026. He was born Aug. 9, 1957 to Carol and June Otterson. He grew up in Puyallup, graduating from Rogers HS in 1976. David completed the carpentry course at Bates and worked in construction. Later he earned an AA in drafting from Green River CC. In 1989 he married April May, whom he dearly loved. They shared a love of animals and never were without dogs, cats, and rabbits. David was creative, handy with quick fixes, and could figure out how things were put together just by looking at them. He built models, often creating his own designs. David had many interests. He played the bass guitar, and loved growing plants – trees, perennials, and the unusual. NASCAR, wrestling, and football were his favorite sports, and he was well versed in politics and science.
Though he didn’t socialize much, most people he met liked him. Family was important, and like all lives, there were ups and downs. He spent 16 years as a widower after his wife’s early death, and ADHD was a lifelong challenge. He always had the love and support of his family, and he prayed for them often. He helped care for his parents in their last days. David loved and belonged to the Lord Jesus. He led several of his friends to the Lord, and one of them is with him in heaven now.
David was preceded in death by his wife April and parents Carol and June Otterson. He is survived by his sister Sally and brother Carol Jr. of Puyallup. We love and miss you, and look forward to that day when we will all be together again. David's life will be celebrated at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 140 E 56th Street, Tacoma on Friday, Oct. 30th at 1pm. Memorials may be made to Binky Bunny-Tales Rescue (binkybunnytalesrescue.com) or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
