In Loving Memory of Our Mother, Carol Averill Bryner
Carol Averill Bryner, our beloved mother, was born on September 22, 1953, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Earl Douglas Averill and Patricia Helen Allington Averill. Being the daughter of aCleveland Indians baseball player, Mom’s early life took her across the U.S. and to Colombia, South America. She was the second of four children and is survived by her siblings Mike, Randall, and Julie Averill.Mom was proud of her straight A’s and scholarship to Loma Linda University, where she earned her nursing degree. She and our dad began their life together in California, where their first daughter Rebecca was born, before moving to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where they raised Michael, Katharine, and Elisabeth. We will always be grateful for the years she dedicated to raising us before returning to the career she loved. In Idaho, Mom became a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, faithfully serving in many callings and forming lifelong friendships. In recent years, she cherished her time as a service missionary at the Seattle Temple in Washington. Her nursing career reflected her compassion and leadership. She served as Nursing Director for Good Samaritan Hospice in Idaho Falls and Hospice of Tacoma, helped open the Hospice House in University Place, and later worked as Director of Nursing for King County Public Health. Our mom adored her grandchildren and great-grandchild, never missing a birthday and always showing up with love. Spending time with her grandchildren was her greatest joy. She was a sewing and crafting perfectionist, and loved quilting, sewing clothes, and cross stitch. She shared that talent with all her children and others at church and through 4H. She made incredible comfort food, and was a huge influence on her children’s continued passion for cooking. She also had a fearless love for travel and always looked forward to the next trip.Mom passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, surrounded by her children in Puyallup, Washington. She was married to Clyde Bryner in 2009, who proceeded her in death.
